FREEDOM FROM TORMENT:
I Samuel 16:14-17, 21-23 NKJV
[14] But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him. [15] And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. [16] Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.” [17] So Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”
[21] So David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armorbearer. [22] Then Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.” [23] And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.
Saul was a king yet he suffered greatly from a distressing spirit, what is now called depression. In its severe form Saul was found talking to himself loudly (prophesying – 1 Samuel 18:10). His only outlet was good anointed music. Today, many are being tormented by many such spirits but have not found lasting solutions.
Many are being tormented by voices and feelings of impending danger, low self-esteem, rejection, doom, and failure. Some are so tormented by feelings of worthlessness about anything they do until they give up. Some are tormented by constant voices to do evil, kill, hurt, abuse and self-harm until they give in.
Through the name of Jesus Christ we can overcome every tormenting, distressing, or depressing spirit. Let us remember that at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee must bow and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). This includes all these evil spirits that daily distress some of us.
Do you hear strange voices or have feelings that are tormenting you, causing you to be distressed and depressed? Put on some anointed gospel music and begin to praise the Lord your God. His power will be made manifest and in His name you can break that yoke over your life, cast them out, and be totally set free. Praise is powerful!
This is God’s Word for you, today.
Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV
[1] “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; [2] To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, [3] To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
