DON’T MAKE THE ADDITIONS YOUR PRIORITY:
Matthew 6:28-34 NKJV
[28] “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; [29] and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. [30] Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? [31] “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ [32] For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. [33] But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. [34] Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Every Believer must get their priorities right in order to advance the kingdom of God. For the kingdom of God (the church) to be strong and have it’s desired impact on earth and in our communities, each member must put the interests of the kingdom and living in righteousness, his or her priority.
Unfortunately, most of us have made having our needs met and advancing ourselves in life the priority of our lives. Jesus says this is the wrong way to think and act. Why must I give my tithe and give generous offerings in church? So that your church can be financially strong to meet all its obligations! Yet many of us think of having our needs met first.
We need to consider the impact of our contributions to the kingdom of God first, then God who knows our needs will supply them in abundance. We need to have fellowship and pray for each other because our prayers are needed by someone and so that we may be healed (1 John 1:5-7, James 5:16).
Truly, if we make seeking the kingdom of God our priority, it will appear as if we are wasting our lives and our resources, but Christ has an answer for this genuine fear and question.
Mark 10:28-30 NKJV
[28] Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” [29] So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, [30] who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
This, my beloved, is a demonstration of how faithful our God is. He watches over His word to perform it. May fulfill His word in your life as you make seeking first His kingdom and its righteousness your priority in all you do, in Jesus’s name. Amen!
