CRY FOR UNDERSTANDING:
Proverbs 4:1-9 NKJV
[1] Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; [2] For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. [3] When I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, [4] He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. [5] Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. [6] Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. [7] Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. [8] Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. [9] She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”
Friends, getting understanding is one of the most important things to have in life. Understanding is the key to RETAINING everything that we receive in life, whether it is knowledge, wisdom, wealth, health, or riches. It is necessary that we cry out and seek for understanding in every area of life.
When we understand how money works, we will retain money. If we understand the ways of God, we will maintain a fruitful relationship with God. If we understand the principles of health, we will be able to discipline ourselves to maintain good health. That is why David taught his son, Solomon to get wisdom above all things.
The key to wisdom itself is understanding. After all, what is the use of getting wisdom without understanding how to apply it? What is the use of having all the knowledge about God and not understanding it? Without understanding, we deny the need for God’s power in our lives and we will have no need to obey His words.
We need to exalt the need for the wisdom of getting understanding for all things in life, so that it can promote us, honor us, place on our heads the ornament (attitude) of grace, and crown us with glory!
May our hearts retain these words and keep the command to get wisdom and understanding so that we can live successfully in Jesus’s name. Amen!
