GROW YOUR LITTLE FAITH:
Matthew 14:25-32 NIV
[25] Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. [26] When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. [27] But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” [28] “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” [29] “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. [30] But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” [31] Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” [32] And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.
When Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the lake towards Jesus, he was exercising the little faith that he had. It takes faith to even think of getting out of the boat, and equal or more amount of faith to walk on water. Yet, he began to sink because he couldn’t hold on to his little faith.
Jesus says in….
Matthew 17:20-21 NKJV
[20] So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. [21] However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
So why did He reprimand Peter for having little faith and for doubting? It’s because faith must endure. The moment you choose to believe, based on a word from the Lord, you must keep believing and give no room for doubt no matter what is going on around you. Never express doubt and fear in any form or shape when you decide to trust God and victory will be yours.
Your faith will grow if you keep holding unto the word of God you hear. Faith comes by hearing the word of God.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
[17] So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Your little faith will also grow if you spend quality time with God in fasting and prayers. Jesus said in Matthew 17 that faith to accomplish certain things comes only through prayers and fasting. Do you want to walk on water? Spend time in fasting and prayers and believe and act on His words that you hear.
Those who spend time with God in prayer and in His word grow in faith. They mount up with wings of eagles. They run but don’t get weary (their faith doesn’t fail) and are victorious over challenges. Friends, let us grow our LITTLE MUSTARD SEED FAITH!
