EMPOWERED TO BE WITNESSES:
Luke 24:46-49 NKJV
[46] Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, [47] and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And you are witnesses of these things. [49] Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
When Christ commissioned His disciples to continue with His work in His name to all the nations of the world, He told them to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high (read also Acts 1:8). This is because without this power, they couldn’t be effective witnesses to the nations of the world.
That first baptism of the Holy Spirit, on the day of Pentecost, empowered them with the all gifts and authority they needed and would ever need to BE THE KIND OF WITNESSES HE PLANNED FOR THEM TO BE.
Similarly, all who would believe and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit after them, would be empowered to be witnesses (Acts 2:38-39). This means you and I have all the gifts and power we will ever need to be effective witnesses wherever we are and go. These gifts are activated and manifest at the times set by the Lord, and as and when they are needed.
The power and gifts of the Holy Spirit are more visible in our lives when we are filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:31-33). This is the reason why you and I need to pray and do what it takes to maintain the fullness of His Spirit in our lives.
