THE WAY TO GREATNESS:
Matthew 20:24-28 NIV
[24] When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. [25] Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. [26] Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, [27] and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— [28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The Lord says, the only way to become great in His kingdom is to serve because He Himself didn’t come to be served but to serve. Every child of God must serve in one way or the other in their local church and wherever they are.
This is also the secret to promotion in the workplace. The most productive servants (workers) are those who get promoted. As Christians, we must be the best and most effective workers wherever we are, so that our bosses will take notice that our God is with us. Never must it be said of us that we are lazy, mediocre, or skiving in the workplace.
Joseph was sold as a slave to Potiphar, an Egyptian army captain of the guard. As a slave, he served with diligence and excellence because he knew God was with him and didn’t want to disappoint Him. As a result, God also worked with him, blessed his efforts and made him successful. Eventually, even his boss took notice that God was with him and put him in charge of his whole household and everything he had!
Do you know the same God who was with Joseph is with you? Are you the best and most diligent worker in your workplace, church or school? Do you know that as Christians, whatever we do, we must do it as unto the Lord and not to man? Do you really want to be great? This is God’s Word for you today:
Colossians 3:22-24 NIV
[22] Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. [23] Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, [24] since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
