The widow of Nain: Verse of the Day

THE WIDOW OF NAIN:

‭Luke 7:11-17 NKJV‬
[11] Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. [12] And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. [13] When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” [14] Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” [15] So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. [16] Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” [17] And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

Jesus is compassionate and He is moved by the things we go through. He demonstrated this when He reached out to the widow in Nain whose only son had died and was about to be buried. Christ, moved by compassion, stepped in, touched the coffin, commanded the dead man to arise, and gave him back to his mother.

Unlike most other encounters of people with Christ, this time it was Christ Himself who intervened in her situation without her invitation. Beloved, God sees and knows what you are going through in life and His desire is to help. Will you let Him? Most of us shut ourselves out by our unwelcoming attitudes. May the Lord have mercy on us!

We give permission to God to intervene in our lives and our affairs when we present ourselves in submission to Him and His Holy Spirit daily (Romans 8:12-14 & 12:1-2). It is when we acknowledge Him in all our ways and draw close to Him that we allow Him to reign in our lives and direct our steps.

‭Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV‬
[5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

That widow allowed Jesus to intervene in her life at the most solemn, sad, and private moment and received her only son brought back to life again. Will you yield to God and allow Him to have His way in your life? As many as touch Christ or allow Christ to touch them will never remain the same.
