THE FAITHFUL SERVANT:
Matthew 25:14-17 NIV
[14] “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. [15] To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. [16] The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. [17] So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
[19] “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. [20] The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ [21] “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
God expects fruit from His servants, according to each one’s ability and how much He has invested in them. God has placed in each of us His Holy Spirit and gifts according to the level of our abilities, and He is expecting fruit.
Out of the three servants He entrusted with His resources, two doubled theirs because they were faithful. That tells me that, along with the resources He gave them, He also gave them instructions or tips as to how to invest the resources. These two were commended for their successes and promoted because they faithfully followed instructions to invest the resources their Master gave them.
Do you know that with every gift and ability God has placed in you, He has also given you the needed grace to function? Do you know that the Holy Spirit is in your life for a reason? Do you know that the only way to be fruitful in what God has entrusted to you is to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit? God’s work must be done in God’s way, and with the ability God Himself supplies.
Beloved, let us remember that to whom much is given, much is required in return (Luke 12:48). Let us give ourselves to His word (Joshua 1:8) and to the Holy Spirit, so that we can bear much fruit as His faithful servants.
